Lecture Meetings:

E Filing of Returns for A.Y. 2011-12- Practical Issues

This lecture meeting was addressed by Ameet Patel, Chartered Accountant on 14th September 2011 at Walchand Hirachand Hall, IMC. The speaker along with other two members of BCAS had visited Centralised Processing Centre of the Income-tax Department in Bengaluru and detailed minutes of the meeting held with the officials were already circulated. The learned speaker covered various intricate issues in e-filing of income tax returns.

Workshop on Drafting of Agreements, Deeds and Documents

The Indirect Taxes and Allied Laws Committee organised workshop jointly with the Chamber of Tax Consultants and All India Federation of Tax Practitioners on 19th and 20th August 2011 at the West End Hotel. The workshop received excellent response from almost 200 participants. Experienced faculty dealt with different aspects of drafting of agreements, deeds and documents and related legal provisions.

Seminar on NBFC Regulations

(including Audit Aspects)

The Accounting & Auditing Committee organised this seminar on 26th August 2011 and received overwhelming response from members and non-members alike.

Uma Subramaiam, Chief General Manager, Department of Non-Banking Supervision, RBI, addressed the participants on the topic of ‘Recent Developments in NBFC Regulations’ and highlighted RBI’s approach to systemic risk evaluation and management and importance attached to the role of auditors in the supervisory framework.

Somasekhar Sundaresan, Advocate, dealt with the topic of ‘RBI Regulations for NBFCs and CIC (Reserve Bank) Directions, 2011’ and highlighted the changing role of the regulatory body from protection of depositors to systemic risk management.

Manish Gujral, Chartered Accountant, dealt with the topic of ‘Audit Procedures and Reporting for NBFCs’ and highlighted various circulars and guidelines issued by RBI, disclosures to be made in the financial statements and procedures to be performed by the auditors.

Workshop on How to conduct a Tax Audit

This annual half day workshop was organised by the Taxation Committee on 27th August 2011. The large audience comprised mainly of freshly qualified chartered accountants and articled trainees.

Himanshu Kishnadwala, Chartered Accountant, dealt with clauses 1 to 16 and Anil Sathe dealt with clauses 17 to 32 of Form 3CD and highlighted various intricate issues and audit procedures.

Seminar on Co-operative Housing Societies — Tax Issues

The Taxation Committee organised this half-dayseminar on 3rd September 2011 which received a very good response especially from non-members.

Ashok Dhere, Chartered Accountant, explained various provisions of the Income-tax Act with respect to concept of mutuality, taxability of transfer fees, non-occupancy charges, rental for placing telecom towers, filing of Income Tax and TDS Returns.

Pradip Kapasi, Chartered Accountant, dealt with tax issues relating to the redevelopment of properties of co-operative housing societies in the hands of the societies as well as in the hands of the members and highlighted various important and recent judicial pronouncements.

Sunil Gabhawalla, Chartered Accountant, explained in detail applicability of service tax to housing societies and briefly touched upon the VAT and Works Contract Tax issues affecting cooperative housing societies.
