E Filing of Returns for A.Y. 2011-12- Practical Issues
This lecture meeting was addressed by Ameet Patel, Chartered Accountant on 14th September 2011 at Walchand Hirachand Hall, IMC. The speaker along with other two members of BCAS had visited Centralised Processing Centre of the Income-tax Department in Bengaluru and detailed minutes of the meeting held with the officials were already circulated. The learned speaker covered various intricate issues in e-filing of income tax returns.

Uma Subramaiam, Chief General Manager, Department of Non-Banking Supervision, RBI, addressed the participants on the topic of ‘Recent Developments in NBFC Regulations’ and highlighted RBI’s approach to systemic risk evaluation and management and importance attached to the role of auditors in the supervisory framework.
Somasekhar Sundaresan, Advocate, dealt with the topic of ‘RBI Regulations for NBFCs and CIC (Reserve Bank) Directions, 2011’ and highlighted the changing role of the regulatory body from protection of depositors to systemic risk management.

Seminar on Co-operative Housing Societies — Tax Issues
The Taxation Committee organised this half-day
Ashok Dhere, Chartered Accountant, explained various provisions of the Income-tax Act with respect to concept of mutuality, taxability of transfer fees, non-occupancy charges, rental for placing telecom towers, filing of Income Tax and TDS Returns.
Pradip Kapasi, Chartered Accountant, dealt with tax issues relating to the redevelopment of properties of co-operative housing societies in the hands of the societies as well as in the hands of the members and highlighted various important and recent judicial pronouncements.
Sunil Gabhawalla, Chartered Accountant, explained in detail applicability of service tax to housing societies and briefly touched upon the VAT and Works Contract Tax issues affecting cooperative housing societies.
